The following are a bunch of notes and shortcuts I learnt about each of the following notation programs. Quite a few other programs are out there such as Flat and Notion just to name a few however I felt specially drawn towards these.
**AND**
Check this video out to see the latest notation program soon to fly onto our screens!
Laptop/Desktop
MuseScore
A great program to use as it is FREE!! Very accessible for schools with BYOD as all can access as long as they are connected to the internet.
There is also a great feature, I am told but have not yet witnessed, where you can link/embed/sync a YouTube video to the score and listen to the real recording while reading the MuseScore- 'insert jaw drop here!'
Sibelius
Option G --> highlight any given area, simply copy and paste to a word document for a high resolution exported graphic of the score. (Its much better than a screenshot!)
It is possible to export the playback as a video.
R key = repeat any given paste. It will write it out for you. What a time saver!
Review Tab: Allows you to be able to converse with your students through comments. Have a play around with it. You can highlight particular sections and write comments accordingly.
"Export Log" exports a log of all comments that were taken throughout the process of this composition process. Ideal for HSC Comp log.
Note Input --> Tranformation --> allows you to illustrate compositional techniques such as augmentation at a click of a button!
Shift i --> Allows a given idea to be saved as a motif in the ideas hub.
NoteFlight
You can send out and collect assignments on NoteFlight.
Ipad Pro Apps
Notate Me
This app learns your individual handwriting. You can write in the score and
Will have a draft mode that is handwritten and possibly in a different colour in the next couple of years.
Surface Pro Apps
Staff Pad
Runs exclusively on Microsoft or Windows devices.
The surface pen allows you to 'handwrite' the music onto a music staff which then gets transformed into proper music notation font on the score above- WOW :O
This is quite a good app to use for jotting down music motifs on the go however Sibelius may be preferable some when editing and proof reading a final score before submission.
