Presentation of Learning!

I have mixed emotions about how this night went... I'm just going to blurt them out below seeing as this is my final rant (I'm sorry, blog) after all!

Setup: Great!

Technology/Facebook: Awesome idea and mostly seemed to work but after speaking to others who couldn't make it that night and were watching the 'live stream' the response was not positive... It's such a bummer that it didn't work as planned but hey, s*** happens!

Drinks/Food Provided: Fabulous as always James, thanks for your generosity :)

Presentations/Mingling: I feel like for next year, the top presentations (determined by vote by peers or lecturers) with regards to suitability of presenting their assignment should be picked and invited to present on the night.

When the public are invited in to see the best of the best I feel like we didn't deliver... While there were a select few fantastic presentations, the disperse of our audience showed that some did not deliver well...

While I am impressed by peoples efforts and some success to code, I don't believe this is a suitable opportunity for them to present an audience who doesn't have enough background knowledge in that area of technology.

Instead I believe a better solution would be to limit the presentations to the 'best of the best' and for students to feel privileged to present (rather than underprepared) and leave the remainder of the time for the audience to move around to different stations and see our individual work.

Maybe a short 1 min teaser trailer by each students at the beginning of the night to the audience can allow them to determine which stations are most relevant to them and they can narrow down their options when 'mingling time' is allowed.

Following on from that I would like to suggest more time be allocated to the mingling as I believe the audience didn't get much time to delve into all of our work.

I realise a lot of the above is generic but I hope that you can see some opportunities that could be easily be made to make the night even more special.

MY iBOOK:

The PoL for me in relation to the success of my iBook was pretty insignificant as my target audience was so minute. Considering there were many classroom teachers rather than private tutors I believe my assignment didn't have much of an impact on the public however it was wonderful to see some of my peers thrive when presenting their documentaries!

Thanks again for organising such a good night James.

Until next year,

Best wishes,

Sasha
